This role is essential in ensuring all medical documentation is accurate, complete, and accessible to authorized personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, maintain, and update patient health records and documentation.
- Review medical charts for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
- Process medical record requests and release information in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Enter data into electronic health record (EHR) systems and verify patient information.
- Retrieve charts for providers and staff as needed.
- Assist with scanning, uploading, and indexing of medical documents.
- Track and manage medical record submissions, amendments, and corrections.
- Ensure secure handling, storage, and confidentiality of all patient information.
- Communicate with clinicians, insurance companies, and administrative staff regarding documentation needs.
- Support audits, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
- Previous experience as a Medical Records Specialist, Health Information Technician, or similar role.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare documentation, and HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with professionalism.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
