About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Records Specialist to manage, maintain, and secure patient health information. The ideal candidate is familiar with medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and has excellent communication skills. This role is essential in ensuring all medical documentation is accurate, complete, and accessible to authorized personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize, maintain, and update patient health records and documentation.
  • Review medical charts for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
  • Process medical record requests and release information in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
  • Enter data into electronic health record (EHR) systems and verify patient information.
  • Retrieve charts for providers and staff as needed.
  • Assist with scanning, uploading, and indexing of medical documents.
  • Track and manage medical record submissions, amendments, and corrections.
  • Ensure secure handling, storage, and confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Communicate with clinicians, insurance companies, and administrative staff regarding documentation needs.
  • Support audits, reporting, and quality assurance activities.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Records Specialist, Health Information Technician, or similar role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare documentation, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with professionalism.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
